QUILTS FROM THE EAST TEXAS QUILT SHOW

As promised, a group of pics from the East Texas Quilt Show in Tyler, Texas. If you have been to my Wacky Friends blogs, you have seen pics from this show, but I believe that I took pics of some that they did not. Interesting how different our tastes in quilt is. Sometimes we love the same quilts, sometimes not!

Beautiful blue Feathered Star - I am about to embarked on a project including a similar block, so was particularly interested in this.

Darling bunny quilt - but the quilting just made it sing.

Here is a close up so you can get an idea why I say that!

Simple 4 patch? Until you get to the border!

Simiple 9 patch - Again the quilting made the quilt.

This quilt screamed Easter - just love it! .You would never tire of making a quilt like this.

Spring Baskets - and beautiful quilting.

I want to make one of these some day when I grow up ~ It's a version of Log Cabin, but fabric placement is key!

A HUGE quilt

At On Point quilt that looks like a straight set??! Can you figure it out?

I love braid quilts. I have one started - LOL

9 Patch of reproductions fabrics with a patriotic border.

I just love this quilt. A simple 9 patch - but I love the on point set, the bordering of individual blocks and the vine border using the 9 patches as flowers. This sets this quilt off perfectly.

Baltimore Album - I will never make one but - so envy people who do!

Another - just look at the awards and ribbons.!

This is a 4 patch that looks oh so complicated - NOT

Simple Sweet heart quilt in pastels. Not a "me" quilt, but so appropriate for this time of year or a little girls bed. I have never had one of those, but I was one at one time .~~~~

This was my fav! Can you guess why? It's made of favorite western fabrics. The color is just fantastic!

We had such a great time! From left to right ---

Sunbonnet Sue Sunday #20

Merry Christmas once again.  The final Sunbonnet Sue Sunday is happening on a Sunday far from the first Sunday of the month as it should be.  I am sorry, but maybe you are as far behind in your Christmas promises as I am.  The final block in Mom's Sunbonnet Sue quilt plus the entire quilt is the focus of this post---the final Sunbonnet Sue Sunday post.  The quilt was a joy for my mom to make, a joy for all to see and has been a joy to blog for you.  I know there are some who love Sue and some who hate her, but whatever your feelings are about her, you should make a Sue before you draw you final conclusions on your feelings for her.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU
FROM MOM AND ME AND
SUNBONNET SUE
IF YOU HAVE LOVED
EACH AND EVERY POST
JUST LET US SAY
WE LOVE IT THE MOST
PATTERNS, PAROSALS
BONNETS IN BLUE

If you missed any of the Sunbonnet Sue Sunday posts and would like to travel back in time to read them all and see all the blocks one at a time and read all my cheesy limericks just put Sunbonnet Sue Sunday in the search box at the top of the blog and they should all come up.  Thanks for returning to read this special series and come back this year for a block of the month.
Love and Merry Christmas to you also a Happy New Year.  I pray for lots of blogging pleasure.

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS POSTING!

COMING SOON--THE LAST SUNBONNET SUE POST THAT INCLUDES THE CHRISTMAS BLOCK AND THE PIC OF THE ENTIRE QUILT.  I AM SO SORRY THAT I FORGOT!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
Another post before Christmas!!  And I even changed to a Christmasy background!  A little late, but to tell you the truth I have been having a little trouble getting into the spirit this year.  Maybe I have it now or maybe I just found a little extra time when I had a little extra energy.  Those two together are when I get things done and this seems to happen less ad less the older I get.
I am still working on the BOMS, and I hope you will come back by in January as that is when I plan to begin the pattern giveaway.  I am hoping this will be a fun year for Molly's Place.  I have to warn you that I may not be able to keep up with the once a month deadline, but I will truly try.  If I can't, I will eventually "getrdone".  I know that most of you are procratanaters like me, so you can save it to your computer whenever I crank it out.  I am hoping that an elf will contact me and teach me how to do a button so that it can be placed on blogs to promote my BOM.  We will see just how REAL Santa is. hehehehe
I am posting for your enjoyment, a few Christmas quilts that I have made through the years.

The pattern for this one was in a magazine one year and is paper pieced.  I believe it was McCalls, but I may be mistaken.  I made this for my mother one Christmas and she loved it so much that she kept it hung all year round.

This tiny quilt was a kit from a can and is Thimbleberries by Lynette Jennings.  I loved making it and enjoy using it every Christmas.  It makes me smile.  It is about 12" x 12".

This quilt I did not make, but bought at a guild sale.  I do not know the maker, but the blocks are about 2"  and it is hand quilted.  A very special quilt in my home at Christmastime.

This is a block from my Christmas quilt.  If you don't know the quilt I am referring to, you can go HERE to see it.  I thought I would show close ups of a few of the blocks.  It is made with orphan blocks.  You ask me how come they all see to go together so nicely?  Well--I guess everything I do is the same color and style!   That is my only explanation----~~~  This was a fun block and very simple.

I honestly don't remember where the pattern for this block came from.  I do know that I love it!  It's as though someone has caught Santa as he is filling the stockings or placing toys beneath the tree.  He looks surprised, doesn't he?

This is a folded fabric flower technique that I tried one time.  Lots of fun and would make a beautiful quilt with all the blocks being the flowers with the stems and leaves different ways.  I also love the button center.  I am a button gal!

I don't know if I wIll get another post done before Christmas, so have the happiest one ever.  My son is about to move into his new home so we are very very busy.  My youngest grandson's grandma has been sick so I have been baby sitting him some and that has taken alot of my time also, so Christmas has been put on the side burner, so to speak.  It will get here whether I am ready or not, just like in Whoville!  God bless you EVERYONE!!!

OK~I PROMISE~I'T REALLY FINISHED THIS TIME!!

LULU IS SO SO TIRED OF THIS QUILT. SHE SAID SHE CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I AM POSTING IT AGAIN!!!

I keep claiming that this quilt is "FINISHED". Well, the piecing is finished, the quilting is finished, and now the binding and label are finished. So girls, it is truly finished this time. I promise you. I wanted to put a satin binding on it as babies and young children seem to love to rub a soft silky feeling edge to sooth them and calm them when tired. I couldn't find a color I really liked, but finally settled on this light blue.

I had the quilter to leave the quilt untrimmed so that I could trim the batting and binding as needed from the edge of the quilt according to the binding width so that the binding would look full and nice. I ended up timming it 1 3/4 inch from the edge of the quilt (binding was 2 inches wide). I tried attaching this binding the same as I would a narrow cotton binding and you can't really do that as the binding has finished edges therefore it is just top stitched on--front and back at the same time. I went HERE for my first tips on how to attach.

I used a narrow zig zag stitch and invisible thread. This worked well--with the zig zag stitch you have a better chance of catching the back edge of the binding, but just in case you don't sometimes I can say with experience that you can go back and stitch down the parts that did not catch with a straight stitch and no one will ever know.
I stitched all the way to the corner of the quilt edge (not the batting/backing) and then pulled the quilt from under the machine so I could work with the corner. I folded the binding down the next side being careful to see that the corner of the binding met the corner of the batting/backing corner. I then pinned and then went back to the corner and folded the excess fabric inside the mitre one way on the front side and opposite on the backside. I then put the quilt back under the machine and started stitching down the next side.

You can see here that the invisible thread and the small zig zag stitch look very neat and nice. I sewed the corners down by hand.
Here is my label. I love this little poem. This is what it says:
It's Your Quilt
It's OK if you sit on your quilt.
It's OK if your bottle gets spilt.
If you swallow some air And you burp, don't despair,
It's OK if you spit on your quilt.
There are scraps old and new in your quilt,
Put together for you on your quilt.
If your gums feel numb'Cause your teeth haven't come}
It's OK if you chew on your quilt.
We expect you to lie on your quilt,
If you hurt you may cry on your quilt.
On a cold rainy night,Don't you fret, you're all right,
You'll be snug, warm and dry on your quilt.
by Nancy Riddell
There is one more tutorial on applying satin blanket binding available online, but I did not find it very helpful. If you know of one, please post a comment. I would love to share it with everyone. I have searched, but have not been successful. The Wrights site is the best one I found.

BUNNY HILL BLOCK OF THE MONTH, FOR APRIL

My Bunny Hill, A Tisket, A Tasket Block of the Month for April is now finished. See my side bar for the button that will take you straight to the free BOM series. When selecting these fabrics, I was not happy with the bunny, but now that it is finished I am more happy with it. I kept telling myself that I could trash it at any time that I decided that I knew I would never be happy with it. I never could trash it. It looked better with each step I took to make it my own block. It's a little brighter block that the others that I have made, but I think the vintage tatting, button and even the background help calm it down a bit.

The couched bow that appears orange is really a light shade of red. The red in the rick rack is an embroidered chain stitch.

Sunbonnet Sue Sunday #15

Round Top Texas--a giant outdoor Art/Craft/Junk weekend. My sister and I went and I took pictures of several Sunbonnet Ladies and Little Girls that I found. Below is an embroidered apron.

Then this is a portrait style lady--isn't she beautiful?

This was a spread. It seems to be painted on Chimis? It was absolutely beautiful. She was displayed hanging on a wall with twinkle lights behind the see through fabric.
This is just a typical simple SBS.
As is this--with lovely fabrics and more detail and embroidery. This was a 4 block wall hanging and was priced at almost $200.

This little girl has a face, but I think she is just precious and unusual. I have not seen her before, have you?

Pat was gracious enough to allow us to see a recent SBS project that she finished as a result of a class. The pattern used: Umbrella Girls by Betty Alderman. I so appreciate Pat taking the time to contribute to my now monthly SBS posts. She has been a loyal patron to my site. The quilt graces her sewing room and rightly sew! It is a jewel and a constant reminder of Sue's quilt status and of Pat's quilting talent. Please visit A Little of This and a Little of Pat and I guarantee it will be time well spent.

Mom's April block--Well, just as the typical month of April - Mom's SBS block depicts it's reputation for being wet.
Sue started her morning by picking out the prettiest dress she had in her boudoir. You see, Spring is in the air and Sue is ready for a day of the outdoors and plenty of Sunshine. Mother warned her that rain is expected, but Sue is absolutely certain that she is wrong. No rain this day as it is her special day. A walk in the park will result in her meeting of her beau, Bill. BUT WAIT! A few drops are starting to fall. Good thing she wore her Bonnet!!!
Happy Sunbonnet Sue Sunday to you. I did not yet have time to finish this post. I wanted to post a few patterns from Mom's vintage magazines that I feel I can share with you. I will post them next week. My trip and the weekend has caused me to be behind. Of course I have had an entire month, but if it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done. Thanks for visiting and be sure to sign up for the free magazine subscription, followers!!!
