I Finally Finished Off the Ole Bag!!

QUILT, THAT IS!!! Oh Happy Day--Staying off the computer has finally rendered success. To help you remember this project click the title and also here.

I still must decide about a border. Do you want to help? Ok! Give it to me!! What do you think? Red? Stripe? B/W? No border at all? Maybe just a red binding. I think that is what I am thinking at this point. I am tired of this quilt, but I know I should not shirk the border just because I am tired. I want it to be the best it can be. Maybe an applique border---uuuhhhhhh ---Is that what you think? Tell me the truth. I am ready for the challenge (did I say that? NNAAHH, surely not).

WACKIES GO TO THE TEXAS STATE FAIR

WACKIES GO TO THE TEXAS STATE FAIR!! And what a day it was. To start the day, my alarm did NOT go off and I had exactly 20 minutes to get ready for my long day. Seven of us climbed into Kathy's Surburban and off we flew to Dallas to be attending the 10 am cermony of the Texas Department of Agriculture 2008 Quilt unveiling--Theme--TEXAS WINE!! Remember? I have posted several times. Several Wackies submitted blocks and 3 were chosen to be included in the quilt. The day was so enjoyable. Certificates were received as the winners names were announced. Then the unveiling of the quilt-----

The rest of the day was filled with fun--from corn dogs, hot dogs and kraut dogs, margaritas, curly potatoes, and cotton candy to seven Wacky Women in a photo booth--well, almost!! What can I say. We live each day to the fullest or all the days we can anyway. We laughed until we ached all over and then some. People stopped to watch and one ladie took our photo OUTSIDE the booth as the booth pictures caught only a few of us.

World Alzheimers Day, September 21st

I have been ask by my friend Kathy to help spread the word of the dreaded disease called Alzheimers. My mother has it and has had for 10 years. She takes medication called Aricept. This helps slow the progress of the disease in some cases.
September 21st is World Alzheimers Day. Get a virtual patch for your loved one with Alzheimers here.
Let's honor those who are trying so hard to exist without the parts of their memory that help them survive in the world. My mother knows her children and her grandchildren on a good day. She does not know the town she lives in or how to cook or quilt, which are two things she use to love to do. She recently ask me to write down some things about my dad so that she could read about him. She forgets all the little things that help us survive day to day, and she also forgets that she has not done them. She writes herself notes for everything and mean EVERYTHING. If it weren't for that she (and my sister and I) would be totally lost. She exists on peanut butter sandwiches and milk. We try to get her to eat at least one meal a day with vegetables and fruit, but some days it is impossible. The doctor says that a day will come when she will forget to eat. Say a prayer for all those who are trying to exist in this condition and visit the Alzheimers Art Quilt Initiaitive website to learn more. A special thank you to Ami Simms for

After the Hurricane

Well, Girls--As you can see from the pictures, the wind was bad, but not so bad that we lost trees or roofs. In the distance I could see the rain blowing sideways. It was really strange. We were far enough north of the coast. We got HIGH wind, but nothing more. Our electricity didn't even go off--only flashed a few times. My DSL did go out for a few days. I finally got it restored yesterday. I spent two days picking up limbs and twigs with leaves from my yard. We lost one tree out in a pasture.---VERY LUCKY! I couldn't look out the window during the worst of the wind. It looked as though the trees would just fly away. The birds were huddled on the window sills, shaking and wet. My hummers continued to buzz at their feeders on the patio. They MUST eat!! kinda like me! Guess that is why I love them so much.

After plans to exist without for at least a week, I was a little disappointed not to get to nap, read, and cook outside for a week or so. I am so very thankful that we and all we know seem to have faired well through it all.

I have relatives and friends who live farther south and they have all reported that all is well, but others that I know of are still without electricity and most fences are blown away and some roofs have shingles missing, but that is about it. Galveston and other coastal areas are blown to pieces. Please pray for the area. Most have not been allowed to return home as of yet, so they don't even know if they have a home to go to. How sad!!

I am trying to get my "Ole Bag Swap" quilt off my design board. I worked on it for awhile this afternoon. I wish there was something you guys could say to encourage, spur, push or scare me into finishing it. Well-- you could try!

Here is most of it with out the corner and side triangles. Maybe you could help me decide what to do about them. I thought maybe I would just finish them with more of the same blocks or=============

I have some flower applique blocks that I could put on the sides.

Or ----I have squares of b lacks that I used in the quilt. I could finish the side triangles with them like this:


Or----I have a black and cream paisley print or a black with cream dot that I could use. Any suggestions? Help me out girls----.

My Texas Swap Block quilt is now quilted, bound, and on the bed. I chose to put a wider binding on it. I really like it.

Primitive Excellence Award

Rhonda has named me recipient of the Primitive Excellence Award. I am not quite sure I am deserving of this. The only thing primitive about me is my age and my experience.
