update!! I found a rotary ruler "shield" that I have ordered in lue of the glove. I don't know why, but I just am afraid that Iwill neglect to wear the glove. Probably because it will be too much trouble to take it on and off. These shields attach with suction cups. They are suppose to interchange from one ruler to another easily. View them HERE. You might want to try them too.
IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH, YOU BETTER STOP HERE! Four days ago, I was cutting fabrics in layers to work on my Red and Green Reproduction Quilt. Now--before I go on, let me say that I consider myself a very careful cutter. I go slow and stay aware of where my cutter is, but I know what I did this day. Sometimes a dull blade is worse that a sharp one. It was having a hard time cutting through layers of fabrics and I was pressing too hard and whoop! It jumped off the edge of the ruler and- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
IT WAS DONE!! The slice was clean and quick. Not even a speck of blood on the part that was sliced off.
I grabbed my finger inside the rest of my fingers and held onto it---hard and fast until I got hold of myself. I had to bandage it several times before the bleeding stopped. Today a bandaid is all that is needed.
I am showing and telling of this experience to possibly help you be aware of how easily this can happen. I am thinking I will purchase one of the gloves sold my Fons and Porter. I have done this one time before and honestly, my poor little finger cannot take much more. AND next time it could be alot worse.
I KNOW----GROSS!
THIS IS THE PIECE THAT WAS SLICED OFF. JUST AS IT WAS LYING ON THE CUTTING TABLE==NO BLOOD! NAIL IS ON THE LEFT. THIS PIC WAS TAKEN THE NEXT DAY SO THE SKIN PART IS A LITTLE DRIED UP! ARE YOU OFFICIALLY GROSSED OUT NOW???? GOOD!! GET YOURSELF A GLOVE!!

OMG! Glad you are okay; so I'm thinking the Wackies need to get you this glove!!!!
Oh, my....I"m sorry that happened to you. I hope it feels better soon. Yes....get that glove.
oh man! that must feel sore! so sorry you had to experience that. I hope it heals quickly.
Experience...such a good teacher. Hopefully, we learn from yours.
Ouch! At least it was a clean cut and you didn't need stitches! And yes...I'm officially grossed out! LOL
***ouch***
thank goodness flesh grows back. i did this to my thumb about five years ago....fingernail fell off took a whole year to look 'normal' again.
lesson learned.
the cut gloves weren't available, but those 90degree stick-on plastic fences were all that was avialable. i got one of those...
again- sorry for your boo-boo.
i wasn't grossed out...huh...
Ouch, ouch...triple OUCH!!!!! At least you didn't need stitches.
Owwwwwwwww that looks bad! I'm so sorry for you, that must have been, and probably still is, very painful...
Ouch..
Ouch! The worst thing about an accident like that is the immediate thought that always goes through your head, "I shouldn't have done that, can I take it back?" I think I am going to get one of those glove the next time I'm out.
Oh my that looks sore and what a horrid thing to happen , I have come close and just took a small piece of my nail off but never any skin .Hhmm maybe I need to buy those gloves as well , wonder if they work ?
Thanks for the reminder about using the safety glove. I also cut off a portion of my finger using a rotary cutter. It was a few years ago, so now it is all healed.
Oh, I know that hurts. Hope it heals quickly.
Looks bad! Nope, I don't think you could have sewn that back. ;)
Okay, I could handle that...and I hear you about the dull blade. Glad you're better.
youch!! hope you feel better soon!
Let us know how you like the shield.

Oh you poor thing....I sliced my finger ages ago with the rotary cutter and it has taught me to always be careful....they are so sharp. I hope your finger doesnt take too long to heal.
Hugs Vicki
Oh...that is not good...I hope it heals quickly...leaving a cutter open is not a good idea either, just brushing against one can give you a nasty cut....thinking of you..hugs..LindaB (aust)
Honey dear, where have you put your mind on? Take care of your self and I´m happy you still have your finger intact.
Hugs, Helle
Oh that does look so nasty - I haven't had an experience like that (touching a lot of wood here) but it certainly helps justify the cost of those blades. Never again will I complain!!
Hope it heals quickly and you can still sew while you are waiting!!
Hi:
I just sliced the side of my finger for thr 2nd time - I'm looking for safety devices today! Ran across your web site and know your pain all too well - I'm loading, safety shield, safety grippers and gloves - if I do this again I'll be able to dip my left finger in ink and write with it!
After twenty years of sewing, i sliced a 6cm hunk off my left index finger because i was complacent about roraty cutters. I always thought only an idiot would cut off a part of themselves... but here i am with 11 stitches and shopping for safety devices!
