Bunny Hill Block of the Month #9

Once again, Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs has provided us a wonderful block to work with. I picked out my fabrics and got them basted to the background fabric and then could not find the time to work on it as I was not happy with the fabric choices (I know that now). I problem was that my basket fabric choice and my dog fabric choice do not contrast enough. I decided to try a light colored thread to set off the dog. I am not sure I am happy with the result.

TIME WELL SPENT!!

Went in my studio to spend a few minutes and unwind. You know--stress gets you down and you get this urge to fondle the fabric, nest a needle, or peek at the pens? Anyway--I had to have a few minutes. I did a little rearranging or organizing as I guess I should say. I am constantly feeling I should do that when I would be better off if I would just WORK ON MY PROJECT! Above shows a small amount of progress.

Then I decided to wind my vintage rick rack around an old spool Works well--I can now see just what colors I have and how much I have. Of course this is not ALL my collection (not hardly) just all that would fit on the spool.

Well, I didn't have time to get to my fat quarter shelf. I think it needs just a little attention. I'll get to it another day.

Before Iknew it I had my Bunny Hill Block pieces cut. I decided to use prepared applique for this months block in stead of Steam a Seam 2 fusible method.

I fused freezer paper templates to the fabric then cut them out adding a scant 1/4 inch seam allowance. A little school glue stick around the edges and they are ready for the light box.
Just a peak at some of the new fabrics that I purchased at a retreat at Alford Inn.

SUNBONNET SUE SUNDAY #19

SUNBONNET SUE SUNDAY COMES ROUND REALLY OFTEN. Honestly, I am not ready for it this month. My play is to combine SSS with the results of a day in my sewing room yesterday. First things first--The month of SEPTEMBER! Oh course, we all know the month means--------------------School Days. Mom's block combines SSS and Mary of the Little Lamb story. Oh course, Mary was headed to school, so look closely because you don't really know if this is Sue or Mary, or maybe it's Mary Sue. She has her little lamb following her to school, just as the poem describes. How do I know she is headed to school? Because she is carrying her slate board. The youngest readers may not know that before paper, students used a slate board. On it you could write and erase and write again --similar to a chalf board, only the slate pencil was more like a pencil.
Mary Sue is wearing her new dress that Mama made especially for her first day at school and her pantaloons are showing just enough at the edge of her skirt. She got up extra early to button her high button shoes with the shoe hook that she got in her Christmas stocking.
A leisurely walk to school watching the birds and bunnies and picking up your best friend, Jane on the way, make September 1st the best day ever.
We all know that first days of school in September are long gone, but September is still thought of as the "Going to School" month.
