BOOT BASH BLOCK #7

I have several things to blog about today.  I am hoping that I am on a "blogging" roll so that I can get back into it again after the passing of my mother about a month ago.  July Boot Bash, Block 7 is now ready.  As I make up this post, I have not posted the pattern, but will do so as soon as I finish here.  July is hot in Texas, so a cactus is very appropriate for this month's block.  I used a little big of Seminole patchwork for the boot top, but you can  leave that off or do decorative stitching in it's place.  ENJOY!
Now--I need your help -- I am very behind on my Bunny Hill "Henritetta" blocks.  I have made up block 5 and I cannot decide which wool to use for the pumpkin.  The brighter orange pumpkin is in the picture below.  At first I thought it would really give my quilt a punch, but as time has worn on, I decided that I wanted to go with the pale color.

Here it is placed with the other finished blocks in bright orange.
Here is the paler choice.--Give me your opinions.  All are welcome--
Happy 4th to all and as a small gift to everyone who has made the sweet comments to me on behalf of my sweet mother and in friendship to me I want to give you one of my Mom's favorite recipes.  Comino rice is a favorite with anyone who tries it.  Access this recipe under "REQUESTED RECIPES" link at the top of my blog (pages).  you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the page.  I hope you will try it because if you do, it it sure to become one of your family and friends favorites.

I like the bright pumpkin better, but then, that is what I used in my block. LOL Whichever pleases you most is what you should use.

Hi!
I agree, the paler pumpkin is lost in the square...
How about a small orange print? I agree with you about the bright orange solid fabric, but perhaps a small print would be better, maybe one of your quilting buddies have some scraps you could look thru?
Or a print with orange in it, maybe with taupe, or a light brown? You want to be able to see the pumpkin, but you don't want it to compete with the squirrel and bird..
Good luck, Leslie

I really like the brighter pumpkin but I love orange so maybe I am biased. And I am just the opposite of you, I am one boot behind on your BOM and just got caught up on Henrietta. I am really happy to see the cactus: DH loves them and will see this boot as more his than mine. I am trying to have girl and boy boots so we will both be happy with this quilt. ;-)

I think the pale pumpkin is just too pale and doesn't look like a pumpkin, just a melon. I don't think the brighter orange pumpkin is too bright when you have placed it in the quilt - but that's jmho. I suppose what you really need is a third choice - a color inbetween the two.

P.S. How sweet to offer one of your Mom's recipes. (And a good idea too) It looks really tasty. I hope to give it a try this week. Thanks!

I like the brighter orange. That is the color of the pumpkins I buy.

Looks like I'm in the minority group here, but I like the paler one better!

Hi! I love your Boot from July...
about your HW blocks (I'm also a little behind, just finished my block 5, LOL) I would leave the bright orange pumpkin in! Looks great in the quilt.
Good luck with your decision.

I want to try the rice recipe, too. It looks great! I have never heard of comino spice. Is it spicy? Thanks for sharing the recipe!

I like the brighter pumpking, but with some contrasting thread to make the shape of the pumpkin come alive you could change the look of the paler one.

It's your piece and you should do what pleases you!

We've had a very wet Spring and Summer here on the west coast of Canada, wish AI could send you some of our rain.

Stay cool,

*Love* your boot BOM! This is the first time I've seen it.

I wondered if you would like to share it at today's BOMs AWAY linky party? Just in case, here's the url:
